From surgery through to recovery, we prioritize the comfort and well-being of your beloved pet.
Your pet’s health and safety during their surgical procedures are our top priority. Our veterinarians have over 16 years of experience, which means the team, including veterinary technicians and assistants, are well-equipped to ensure your pet has a successful surgery. We do our best to make sure your pet is safe and comfortable during surgery so they’ll have a healthy recovery process.
Before surgery, we perform blood tests to ensure your pet’s body will respond well to the surgery and anesthesia (if it’s required). Some pet owners might be concerned about their pet going under anesthesia but advancements in modern medicine ensures it is safe for pets. To ensure your pet is comfortable while under anesthesia, we use a HotDog (special warming conduction blanket), which also ensures a faster recovery. In addition, the combination of our calming dog/cat pheromones and serene pet-friendly music throughout our hospital are designed to create an environment that lessons pet anxiety. During surgeries, pets are fully monitored during the procedure. This means there isn’t a moment during the surgery where our eyes aren’t on your pet. We do this to ensure your pet’s vitals remain stable throughout the procedure, which is a sign your pet is doing well. This also allows us to act quickly if we need to, especially if there are sudden changes to your pet’s condition.
Your pet’s post-surgery behaviour might differ. They might not seem like their usual selves for post-surgery but if these abnormal behaviors continue over a few days, don’t hesitate to call us. Generally, you can look out for:
The best thing you can do to ensure your pet’s recovery is to closely follow our veterinary team’s post-surgery care instructions, which might include changes in your pet’s daily activities, checking their incisions, altering their diet and giving them their medication. Your pet might be in pain so try to ensure they’re as comfortable as possible. If you have any questions or concerns about their recovery process, please contact us at 604-544-7387.
